• a Midlands teen in Five Points will be tried as an adult.

Judge Mobley Jones ruled Delarrett Canzater will be waived to general sessions court and will be prosecuted in the assault of Carter Strange.

Strange was jogging through a parking lot near the intersection of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue just after midnight on June 20 when the assault happened. Police said a group of eight people took part in the beating.

Four juveniles have already pled guilty and were sentenced in family court on charges related to the incident

Charges are still pending against two adult defendants and Canzater.

Daniel E. Johnson – The Honorable Daniel E. Johnson is the 15th solicitor elected to serve as Solicitor for the Fifth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina.

He served as Legal Counsel and Deputy Chief as well as Chief Deputy for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked for eight years. While there he assisted the Sheriff in directing the county’s law enforcement programs and performing various legal and administrative duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws relating to the public’s safety and welfare. Johnson worked closely with Richland County Council and organizations throughout the community, managing the department’s annual budget of 30 million dollars.

A former prosecutor in the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Johnson served as the Special City Prosecutor for the City of Columbia while serving on the Violent Crimes Task force. In 2008, he was one of three finalists for the Chief of Police of the City of Columbia.

Solicitor Johnson, a Captain and Judge Advocate in the United States Army Reserve, is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While serving in Korea in the summer of 2010, he received the United States Army Reserve Commander’s Coin and Certificate for outstanding performance.

He is a graduate of The Citadel, the University of South Carolina School of Law, the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and the Police Legal Advisors Training program. Johnson is a member of the South Carolina Bar and an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law. In 2004, he was selected as a member of the Rotary Group Study Exchange Team, traveling to Sweden and engaging in a six-week speaking tour about community policing.

He currently serves on the Boards of Directors for Centura College, the Domestic Abuse Center, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation and the Youth Corps. He is also a recipient of The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award issued by the Governor. He received The Order of the Palmetto for bravery and acts of heroism at the age of twenty-two.

Solicitor Johnson was born in Washington, D.C., and attended high school in Laurel, Maryland.

MOBILE, Alabama –Mobile police need your help to catch a mob that beat Matthew Owens so badly that he’s in critical condition.According to police, Owens fussed at some kids playing basketball in the middle of Delmar Drive about 8:30 Saturday night. They say the kids left and a group of adults returned, armed with everything but the kitchen sink.

Police tell News 5 the suspects used chairs, pipes and paint cans to beat Owens.

Owens’ sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. “It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed.” Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using “brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on.”

Police will only say “multiple people” are involved.

What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said “Now thats justice for Trayvon.” Trayvon Martin is the unarmed teenager police say was shot and killed February 26 by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman in Samford, Florida.

Police canvassed the area, but did not find any suspects. They’re asking anyone with information to call them at 251-208-7211, Crime Stoppers at 251-208-7000, or text a tip to 274637 and include the keyword CRIME 411.

Hate crime victim describes racially motivated mob attack in Grand Rapids

I was a victim of a “Trayvon Martin” related Black on White Hate Crime.

Government Officers of the State of Michigan, and others:

On Sunday 3/25/2012 at approximately 12:20AM, in Grand Rapids Michigan, near Sixth Street and Broadway, I was beaten with a large chain five to six times in my temple area (I could have died). This was for no reason other than that I am white. They did not rob me they just called me a white piece of shit and said I deserve it what I was getting. They did not only beat me but four to six others for the same reason (i.e. no robbery just racial hatred).

They beat me with a chain while calling me a white piece of shit. However, I was told by the detective that they would get no jail time since they are only 16 and 17.

So, if I was 17 and I beat 5 different black kids on five different occasions in a 48 hour period with a thick chain to their heads, all the while calling them “niggers”, what do you think would happen to me? Would they give me just boot camp, like the detective said, or would I be in prison for hate crimes and multiple accounts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill?

Why won’t they be charged as adults? Are not 5 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and 5 counts of ethnic intimidation enough for you to prosecute them as adults and enforce the laws of the State of Michigan regarding such matters?

I demand, as a citizen of the US and of the State of Michigan, that you uphold my civil rights. I demand that the people who beat me, and could have killed me, for no other reason than my color, be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for assault with a deadly weapon and ethnic intimidation.

SCSO seeks information in attempted homicide

Seminole Co. Fla., (3/27/12)-The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information from
the public regarding an attempted homicide that occurred last night in the unincorporated area
of Sanford.   Deputies were called to the area of Beardall Avenue and Lincoln Street at
approximately 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report that a man was being beaten by two other
men with blunt instrument.      Deputies found the victim, a 50-year-old white male, inside the
woods on the north side of Lincoln Street near Beardall Avenue.         He was transported to
Orlando Regional Medical Center where he is currently in critical condition.

Investigators believe the victim was originally beaten inside his vehicle, a black SUV, and was
then taken into the woods where the two men continued to attack him with the blunt
instrument.  The men then left the area in the victim’s vehicle and abandoned it a short
distance away.

Investigators are searching for two Hispanic males, both approximately 20 years of age.  One of
the men was 5’8” and wearing blue denim shorts and no shirt.  The second man was 5’10.”

Anyone who may have information about the incident or the persons involved is asked to call

Two Sanford men arrested for attempted homicide

 

Seminole Co. Fla., (4/2/12)-The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on Friday arrested two men for
attempting to kill another man with a hammer on March 26 in unincorporated Sanford.  Julius Bender,
B/M, 18, and Yahaziel Israel B/M, 19, both of Sanford, were charged with attempted homicide, burglary
with assault or battery, and armed burglary.

 

Investigators allege Bender and Israel beat the 50-year-old victim with the hammer inside his vehicle
and then took him into the woods in the area of Beardall Avenue and Lincoln Street where they
continued to attack him.  A witness that heard the victim’s cries for help and saw the beating called 9-1-
1, but Bender and Israel fled from the scene before deputies arrived.    The two men left in the victim’s
vehicle, abandoning it a short distance away.   Deputies found the victim in the woods, barely conscious
and with severe head injuries.

 

A tip received through Crime Line led investigators to Bender and Israel.    Bender was then identified
through witness identification, and Israel was linked to the vehicle through forensic evidence.    Bender
and Israel were booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility where they remain on a no bond
status.

 

The victim’s injuries are life-threatening and he remains hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center
in critical condition. Investigators continue to investigate the relationship between Bender and Israel
and the victim.
